Willcox, AZ - Saturday, April 10

Today was my favorite biking day of the trip. We headed out of Tucson (a very bike friendly city) on our way to Willcox (just 87 miles away).

The first 10 miles consisted of big bike lanes and smoothly paved streets...mostly.

Then we headed east along I-10. We encountered some rolling hills and I’m finally starting to feel like I’m getting my biking legs...at least a little bit. Unfortunately doing one century ride in August and basically no physical activity until starting a cross country ride in April is a bit uncomfortable.

During the ride we played a little game called “who can find the coolest thing on the side of the road” Jen would have won since she saw an entire intact owl, but about an hour later we saw another one, so it was a tie for the day.

We cruised a little faster after lunch heading toward and very hyped up water stop at a place advertised constantly on the side of the road called “The Thing.” We finally arrived at 3pm and saw it. Turns out the advertisement is false and it’s just a bunch of things.

With all the rolling hills we were a bit afraid of what the last 20 miles into Willcox might hold, but no need because it was mostly downhill with a bit of a tailwind and we were hangin out at Willcox high school before we knew it.

The strawberry support team cooked us up some mean pizza bagels and with the free wireless at the school I finally was able to catch up on all my blogging!
